Former Husker Jessica Shepard transferring to Notre Dame

Former Nebraska women's basketball player Jessica Shepard, the 2016 Big Ten Rookie of the Year, will transfer to Notre Dame.

The Omaha World-Herald first reported Shepard's decision, which she then confirmed to espnW.

A 6-foot-4 forward, Shepard averaged 18.6 points and 9.8 rebounds per game this past season for the Huskers, who were 7-22 under first-year coach Amy Williams.

Shepard, a native of Fremont, Nebraska, was recruited and played her first year with the Huskers for Connie Yori, who resigned following the 2016 season.

Shepard will sit out the upcoming season as per transfer regulations, and then have two seasons of eligibility with the Irish.

Shepard's move to Notre Dame fills a spot left by the departure of 6-2 Erin Boley, who announced Tuesday that she is transferring to Oregon. Boley, who averaged 6.5 points and 2.8 rebounds for Notre Dame this past season, will sit out this coming year and have three seasons of eligibility left.
