When you put your name in the record book at a program with as much history as Louisiana Tech, you know you've really accomplished something.

Senior guard Kierra Anthony scored a school-record 50 points Wednesday in the Lady Techsters' 100-88 overtime victory over visiting Houston. She then added 20 points, five rebounds and five assists Sunday in a 66-50 victory over Memphis and is the espnW national player of the week.

Anthony, a Louisiana native from New Iberia, was 17-of-29 from the field and 14-of-14 from the foul line against the Cougars. The most astonishing thing about her performance, though, was that it didn't look like a memorable night after the first half. She had scored just six points.

But in the second half and overtime, Anthony erupted for 44 more points and broke the record of 47, which had been set by Sheila Ethridge against Texas Pan American on Feb. 23, 1991. Ethridge also had scored 42 points against Tennessee and 40 against Arkansas State earlier that same month. Ethridge played at Louisiana Tech in her hometown of Ruston from 1987-91, and averaged 25.7 PPG her senior season.

Coach Brooke Stoehr -- formerly Brooke Lassister -- also played for Louisiana Tech, helping the team make NCAA tournament appearances from 1998-2002. Now as coach, she got the chance to see an unforgettable achievement by Anthony at Thomas Assembly Center.

"She had so much poise throughout the game," Stoehr said.

Louisiana Tech is 3-1, and Anthony is averaging 28.0 points, 4.8 rebounds and 3.5 assists. She averaged 14.0 points last season, when the Lady Techsters went 19-12 overall and lost in the first round of the WNIT.

Anthony is hoping to lead the Lady Techsters to their first NCAA tournament appearance since 2011. They next play Tuesday at Arkansas State, and then Saturday at Wichita State.
