Princeton's Abby Meyers, Ivy League women's basketball player of the year, transfers to Maryland

Ivy League women's basketball Player of the Year Abby Meyers is transferring to Maryland, the school announced Friday.

Meyers, a 6-foot guard, averaged 17.9 points and 5.8 rebounds for the Princeton Tigers, who went 25-5 and won the Ivy League regular-season and tournament titles. No. 11 seed Princeton then upset No. 6 seed Kentucky in the first round of the NCAA tournament behind Meyers' 29 points.

For the past two seasons, Maryland was aided by another Ivy League transfer, former Harvard guard Katie Benzan. She finished her career with the Terps' Sweet 16 loss to Stanford having averaged 11.4 PPG in her time with Maryland.

This gives Meyers a chance to go back home, as she is from Potomac, Maryland. And it helps the Terps -- who have had four players this spring enter the transfer portal, including leading scorer and rebounder Angel Reese -- continue to replenish their roster.

Earlier this week, Maryland also had junior guard Elisa Pinzan transfer in after leading South Florida in assists this past season. And incoming freshmen Brianna McDaniel and Gia Cooke signed with Maryland.

"We're so happy to provide Abby a homecoming here at Maryland," Terps coach Brenda Freese said. "When we can add a conference player of the year, a winner, a leader, a great teammate, and someone who thrives in the big moments, it's exciting."
