Virginia Tech star point guard Georgia Amoore has entered the transfer portal, the school told ESPN on Monday.
The news comes a week after Virginia Tech coach Kenny Brooks left for the Kentucky women's basketball head-coaching job.
Amoore, a senior, had until Monday to decide whether she was going to declare for the 2024 WNBA draft, where she was a projected first-round pick, or return for a fifth year, using the extra season of eligibility granted to student-athletes during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The 5-foot-6 point guard from Australia was a massive force for the Hokies as they became an ACC and national power in recent years. The two-time first-team all-conference selection averaged 18.8 points and 6.8 assists per contest -- both career-high marks -- as a senior and leaves Blacksburg as the program's all-time assists leader.
Virginia Tech -- which Amoore helped propel to the program's first Final Four in 2023 -- bowed out of the NCAA tournament in the second round this year, competing all postseason without three-time ACC player of the year Elizabeth Kitley (left ACL tear).
Amoore will be an immediate impact player wherever she ends up and is likely considered the top player in the transfer portal at this time.
