Return of The Beast: PBA finally lifts Calvin Abueva's suspension

The PBA announced on Sunday morning that it has lifted the suspension of Phoenix Super LPG Fuel Masters forward Calvin Abueva.

Abueva, whose suspension is the longest in league history, will be able to return to action in the Fuel Masters' game against the NLEX Road Warriors on Monday.

PBA Commissioner Willie Marcial, deputy commissioner Eric Castro, and technical officer Mauro Bengua met with Abueva and interim head coach Topex Robinson on Saturday morning to discuss the steps moving forward.

Abueva is expected to further participate in counseling, according to the league's official website. He also expressed his remorse and gratitude for helping him during his suspension.

"We are very happy that Calvin was given a second chance to prove himself. The team is here to support him through and through and we have Willie Marcial and Chairman Mitra of GAB to thankful for," Phoenix team manager Paolo Bugia told ESPN5.com.

In the meeting, Marcial expounded the possible penalties that Abueva may be slapped with due to future infractions. Marcial also said he is hopeful that Abueva will be able to learn from the 16-month layoff and will be an example for the general public.

Since his suspension, Abueva had been mandated by the league to undergo counseling, a drug test, and a seminar conducted by the Games and Amusements Board.

He was also compelled to do community service, which he had done voluntarily since.
