NorthPort has signed first-round picks Jamie Malonzo and Troy Rike to multi-year deals, the Batang Pier announced Monday.
The team signed Malonzo to a maximum three-year deal while also committing to Rike for two years. Both rookies made it official alongside their respective agents.
The 6-foot-6 Malonzo was the no-brainer pick at second overall in this year's PBA Draft for NorthPort after a stellar one-and-one campaign in La Salle. "I have to tip my hat to NorthPort for getting the deal done under the pandemic circumstances. I'm happy and this is one less thing to worry about," he told ESPN5.com in a message.
"Now, I'm excited to hit the floor and rep NorthPort," added the former UAAP Mythical selection who averaged 15.8 points, 9.9 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 1.1 steals.
Rike, on the other hand, played four years at Wake Forest and then went one-and-done as well for National U.
Before getting selected 11th overall, the 6-foot-8 big stood at the vanguard of 3x3 in the country, and, at one point, ranked as the fourth-best player. "Really excited! Happy to officially be a part of the team! Hopefully, we can start playing soon," he expressed.
Both are expected to beef up a promising Batang Pier squad featuring workhorse Sean Anthony, returning guard Robert Bolick, and new slotman Greg Slaughter.
