Predicting the 2013 season: Week 5

Last season we began this exercise. Here's how we did last season. Not terrible, but certainly some room for improvement.

We'll move forward again this offseason by making preseason picks for every single game on the Big 12 schedule. By the end of it, you'll see our full projections for each team in the Big 12 in 2013.

More Big 12 predictions for 2013.

Tulsa 30, Iowa State 24: The Cyclones' trip to Tulsa doesn't go as they'd like, as Trey Watts and Cody Green team up for 200 rushing yards and offer a lesson to a young Iowa State front seven. The Golden Hurricane can be sneaky tough at home, and Iowa State loses a second game in three meetings to Tulsa.

TCU 34, SMU 23: This game is almost never easy for the Frogs. It's a heated rivalry and Garrett Gilbert rallies the Mustangs to an early lead in Fort Worth for the Iron Skillet. The second half is all TCU, which puts this one out of reach midway through the fourth quarter.

Oklahoma State 41, West Virginia 31: Morgantown's a tough place to play, and a frenzied second-half comeback gets WVU within three points with six minutes to play after a 45-yard touchdown run from Charles Sims. Clint Chelf shrugs it off and finds Austin Hays for a 6-yard touchdown to ice the game with two minutes to play.

Notre Dame 27, Oklahoma 21: The Sooners felt more confident knowing Notre Dame would be without Everett Golson, but there is the whole matter of that defense. Stephon Tuitt sacks Blake Bell twice and the Sooners endure another frustrating offensive outing against the Irish. Beating a top-20 team on the road is never easy, even if it's missing its starting quarterback.
