GURNEE, Ill. -- Chicago Bears running back Jeremy Langford suffered a left foot injury in Chicago's 23-22 preseason loss to New England that required him to wear a walking boot during Saturday's practice.
"I think he got landed on," Bears coach John Fox said. "He got sore after the game."
Langford, a 2015 fourth-round pick, carried the football eight times for 55 yards and one touchdown against the Patriots. He also caught one pass for eight yards.
Fox declined to say if the Bears are just being cautious with Langford, who gained 816 yards from scrimmage as Matt Forte's primary backup last season. Langford is listed as the club's starting tailback, but Fox uses a running back-by-committee approach. Still, the loss of Langford for any prolonged period in the regular season would be a serious blow to the offense.
"At the end of the day, if they're best served to not be out here, then they're not out here," Fox said. "You can call it precautionary, but it's just doing what's smart."
Veterans Jacquizz Rodgers and Ka'Deem Carey and rookie Jordan Howard follow Langford on the Bears' preseason depth chart.
Howard rushed for 46 yards on 11 attempts in New England.
Meantime, Fox revealed that Pro Bowl right guard Kyle Long is dealing with a shoulder injury, and that wide receiver/return man Deonte Thompson is out with an ankle problem.
