Four LSU football players, including starting quarterback Anthony Jennings, were arrested and suspended Thursday following two separate incidents.
Jennings, cornerback Dwayne Thomas and defensive lineman Maquedius Bain were arrested after police say they entered an apartment in an effort to retrieve items that Jennings had reported stolen from his residence.
Police charged all three with unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling and also charged Thomas with simple burglary of an inhabited dwelling. All three players were arrested late Thursday afternoon and were released from East Baton Rouge Parish Jail just before 8:30 p.m. CT.
Jennings and Bain were both released on $5,000 bond, and Thomas was released on $10,000 bond.
"We have suspended these players. It has been our policy to suspend players who have been involved with legal issues," LSU coach Les Miles said in a statement. "I have met with all three players involved extensively. We are still working with campus housing and the authorities to determine what exactly took place. This is an ongoing investigation and our players will cooperate fully."
Earlier in the day, LSU redshirt freshman defensive tackle Trey Lealaimatafao was arrested and charged with attempted simple robbery and simple battery following a brawl early Tuesday in the parking lot of a Baton Rouge bar.
Lealaimatafao is accused of rifling through the pockets of a man who had been beaten unconscious by unknown suspects during a fight at Reggie's bar near the LSU campus. When the victim's girlfriend attempted to intervene, Lealaimatafao pushed her away and then punched her in the face, according to police.
Bond was set at $15,000. Lealaimatafao remained in custody as of Thursday evening.
Miles also suspended Lealaimatafao indefinitely following his arrest.
In the Jennings case, police say the LSU quarterback claimed last week that a MacBook Air, a PlayStation 4 and three pairs of shoes had been stolen from his apartment. He told police on Saturday that Bain had retrieved the laptop from a man who was trying to sell it.
According to the police report, Jennings, Thomas and Bain on Friday entered the residence where they believed the remaining items might be found. A resident said they had not been invited inside. Bain and Thomas told the resident to "give us his stuff back and not to wait until the situation got out of control," according to the report, and the resident said Jennings and the other players further threatened him.
The resident told police that he allowed Bain and Thomas to look around his room and that they did not find any of the items. The resident said they returned shortly after in a group of about six or seven "large black males" who claimed they planned to wait for the resident's roommate to return home. The resident said he returned to his bedroom only to hear Thomas "bashing" through his roommate's door in an effort to break into the room.
The resident told police that he saw Thomas leaving his roommate's room with a blue box, possibly a shoe box, and other unidentified men leaving the room with two more shoe boxes and a PlayStation 4. The roommate later told police that he was missing three pairs of Nike Air Jordan sneakers.
The resident picked Thomas out of a photo lineup Wednesday, identifying him as one of the men who entered the apartment without permission, broke through the door and left the roommate's room with the shoe box in hand.
