Welcome to ESPN India's daily blog, where we aim to bring you all the news from the dynamic world of Indian sports: from the wide variety of Olympic sports to franchise leagues.

July has plenty of sporting action taking place (including the big one, the Paris Olympics) - which you can find listed out in ESPN India's sporting calendar.

What's on today?

  • Indian athletes step up their Olympic prep for Paris 2024.

  • Oh, and the Indian men's cricket team will have a bus parade in Mumbai (from Nariman Point, starting at 5 PM and set to be two hours long) and present their recently won T20 World Cup trophy at the Wankhede stadium. A similar roadshow was held in Mumbai 17 years ago when Mahendra Singh Dhoni's team had beaten arch-rivals Pakistan in the final of the inaugural 2007 World T20 in South Africa.

What happened yesterday?

  • Billiards: Pankaj Advani off to winning start in 2024 Asian Billiards Championships. He had victories over Aung Phyo and Yuttapop Pakpoj in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

  • Chess: Praggnanandhaa draws with Bogdan-Daniel, Alireza shines in Superbet Classic chess round 6. With just three rounds remaining in the USD 350000 prize money tournament, Caruna seems to be sitting pretty at the top, with three aspirants in Gukesh, Praggnanandhaa, and Alireza in pursuit.

  • Football: India (M) to face Vietnam and Lebanon in October friendlies (Oct 9 vs Vietnam, Oct 12 and 15 vs Lebanon)

  • Wimbledon: Rohan Bopanna and Matthew Ebden advanced to round 2
