Fans can now connect directly with some of ESPN's biggest news breakers now in the ESPN App with a new functionality in which they will send push notifications for their biggest and most urgent news directly to your phone.
Select reporters will now personally break news on ESPN's app via push notifications and their own new alerts lists. The reporters will send an ESPN App alert to fans who signed up to follow them. These posts will also live in the ESPN App and on ESPN.com, on their Insider clubhouse, and on team and player pages.
Who are the reporters that will have this capability?
This feature is being launched with six reporters:
• Adam Schefter (NFL)
• Emily Kaplan (NHL)
• Heather Dinich (college football, CFP)
• Jeff Passan (MLB)
• Pete Thamel (college football and basketball)
• Shams Charania (NBA)
What and when will they post?
These reporters will break mostly transactional news, such as trades, free agency updates, injuries and other news, often before it can be found anywhere else on ESPN's platforms. The reporters will continue to post the news and engage on social media platforms, but this feature allows fans to get the news first on the ESPN App.
What about the other alerts lists on the ESPN App?
Fans can still opt in to receive the fastest, most reliable news, stories, games and highlights from ESPN's coverage of the sports, leagues, teams and athletes you care about most. This new functionality will offer die-hard fans the opportunity to get everything from specific reporters on the sports they want to get news on, not just alerts for specific teams or the curated ones that ESPN's editors elevate to fans of a particular league.
How can I opt in to these lists?
Fans can opt in to each alerts list via the reporters' Insider clubhouses in the ESPN App, a clubhouse/index style page that will aggregate all their content. Fans can also access the toggle for them on the app by tapping the alerts bell icon in the top right corner of their respective league's index page.
