Red Bull plans to try out its cockpit protection proposal for 2017 during free practice for the Russian Grand Prix.
The Red Bull concept is a rival to Halo, which was trialled by Ferrari during pre-season testing, and could be introduced as early as 2017. Red Bull's proposal is closer to a canopy design and features a curved windscreen in front of the driver's head with two supports on either side as opposed to one central support.
Friday's test should give some indication of how the canopy impacts on the driver's vision. If the driver's feedback is positive, then the concept could be put forward as a possible solution for next year.
