Karablog: Just how good is Mookie Betts?

Just how good has Mookie Betts been this season? Mike Nelson/EPA

Mookie Betts is all kinds of locked in at the plate, as he took Kansas City Royals lefty Danny Duffy deep three times. How many starting pitchers get to allow three home runs to one hitter in the same game? Betts hit 31 home runs two seasons ago and now, with better plate discipline and sky-high fly ball rate, he looks like he wishes to set a career high. Betts cannot slug .823 for long -- that is nearly 300 points better than 2016 -- but he and Mike Trout sure look like the best players in the sport. Trout did not homer three times on Wednesday, but his first-inning blast off Baltimore Orioles right-hander Dylan Bundy seemed like it traveled 600 feet.
