Hellas Verona sack Andrea Mandorlini after winless start to season

Winless Hellas Verona have sacked head coach Andrea Mandorlini after the club slumped to the bottom of the Serie A table on Sunday.

Mandorlini won two promotions with Verona, restoring them to the top flight in 2013, but after two promising seasons the Gialloblu are staring at relegation having failed to win any of their 14 games.

A 3-2 defeat to Frosinone proved to be the final straw for the Verona board although Mandorlini, 55, did lead training at Peschiera del Garda on Monday morning.

A statement published on hellasverona.it read: "The club have relieved coach Andrea Mandorlini and his assistants of their duties.

"We thank them for their unquestionable professionalism and intense passion, for the shared joys and victories both on and off the pitch, and for leading us from the Lega Pro to Serie A."

Reports in Italy suggest Eugenio Corini, who most recently managed Hellas' city rivals Chievo, is poised to take over at the Stadio Marc'Antonio Bentegodi.
