Hull City striker Nikica Jelavic ends Croatia career

Nikica Jelavic has retired from international duty after winning 36 caps for Croatia.

The Hull City striker, 29, was not satisfied with his role in the squad, according to a statement on the Croatian Football Federation's official website.

Croatia boss Niko Kovac said: "I have to admit that Jelavic surprised me, and I am sorry to hear about his decision.

"Of course I will accept it, and thank him for everything he has done for Croatia. I wish him all the best in life, including his club career."

Jelavic, whose previous clubs included Rangers and Everton, scored six goals for his country.
