Roman Weidenfeller wants talks with Borussia Dortmund about future

Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller wants assurances from the club that he still has a future with them following the signing of Roman Burki.

Dortmund announced the signing of Burki from Freiburg on Sunday after the 24-year-old impressed in goal for the relegated side last season.

Weidenfeller twice lost his place in the Dortmund team to Mitch Langerak during the previous campaign and now wants to know if he is part of new boss Thomas Tuchel's plans.

"The club has to tell me whether they still plan with me," Weidenfeller, who is contracted to Dortmund until 2016, is quoted as saying by Bild. "It is normal that I want to play."

Tuchel, who has succeeded Jurgen Klopp at Dortmund this summer, told Sky Deutschland that he plans to hold discussions with Weidenfeller.

He also said that Burki is not automatically guaranteed to be his first-choice goalkeeper.

"We will have to wait and see how he deals with the new situation," Tuchel said.

"We signed Burki because he has the opportunity to become No. 1, but we did not promise anything to him and no decision has been made yet.

"We want a competitive battle and we will see if two or three candidates enter the race."

Weidenfeller has been linked with a Dortmund exit this summer, with reports claiming Besiktas are interested in signing the goalkeeper.
