Brazil replace injured goalkeeper Fernando Prass with Weverton

Brazil have replaced injured goalkeeper Fernando Prass with Weverton Pereira Silva in their squad for the Olympic Games.

Prass, the 38-year-old Palmeiras goalkeeper, was one of the Selecao's three over-23 players along with Neymar and Renato Augusto.

The veteran injured his elbow on Saturday prior to the team's friendly against Japan.

On Monday, coach Rogerio Micale announced that Atletico Paranaense goalkeeper Weverton, 28, would step in for the team, who open their campaign against South Africa in Brasilia on Aug. 4.

Weverton said he was both surprised and happy to get the call and that, despite the short time for preparation, he would do his best.

"Everyone knows what the goals and objectives are, even though it is true I haven't gone over everything with the coach yet," Weverton told reporters. "I plan to do my best."

Micale had reportedly obtained a release for Valencia's Diego Alves to join the team but , according to O Globo, opted for a goalkeeper who was already in Brazil because of the time constraints.
