Werden Bremen goalkeeper Jaroslav Drobny has been hit with a three-match ban for his red card in the Borussia Dortmund match.
Drobny, 37, was sent off in his side's 2-1 defeat to Dortmund last weekend, for a kung-fu kick outside the penalty area on Marco Reus.
He has been fined €10,000 by the German FA and will now miss Bremen's next three Bundesliga games against Bayern Munich, Augsburg and Borussia Monchengladbach through suspension.
The former Czech Republic international joined Bremen from local rivals Hamburg on a free transfer ahead in the summer, and could now lose his place in goal to Felix Wiedwald.
The 26-year-old impressed during his hour on the pitch against Dortmund, and hopes to win back the place he lost to Drobny.
"I now have the chance to have the last laugh," he told kicker. "I need a bit of luck, a strong performances and the right results to remain in goal."
Wiedwald will be between the posts when Bremen host Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich at the weekend, and he will be behind a highly motivated defence which does not want the Bavarians to score six goals like in the reverse fixture on match day one.
"I know that miracles are possible," defender Niklas Moisander told kicker in reference to his old club Ajax's unlikely Champions League win against Barcelona in late 2013. "Nobody expected us to do it, but our tactics worked out that day."
