Paraguay international Cecilio Dominguez suffered a horrific jaw break during Club America's 2-1 friendly victory over Morelia on Sunday in San Jose, California.
In an ugly scene, Morelia defender Emanuel Loeschbor lost balance and flew into Dominguez on the edge of the penalty area in the sixth minute, after Club America striker Roger Martinez seemed to shove the Morelia player.
Dominguez remained on the ground and the medical staff eventually stretchered the 23-year-old off the field and to hospital in the 10th minute.
America later confirmed in a statement that Dominguez had fractured his jaw and the winger is set to miss the start of the 2018 Apertura when Las Aguilas take on Necaxa on July 22.
The Dominguez injury cames after the news over the weekend that Club America's French forward Jeremy Menez will undergo surgery because of an ACL tear in his left knee. The 31-year-old is set to be out for at least six months and the loss of creative forces Menez as well as Dominguez represents a significant problem for Las Aguilas.
Colombian Martinez netted both goals for Club America in his debut with the team, after Peruvian Irven Avila had given Morelia an early lead.
