Toronto FC star Sebastian Giovinco criticized the surface at his club's BMO Field after Saturday's game, saying a player is injured every game.
Giovinco scored twice to guide Toronto to a 3-1 win over the Montreal Impact, but left the game in the 72nd minute after appearing to aggravate a groin injury.
Toronto uses a natural grass field but often adds sand to help mitigate the affects of heavy use, particularly from the Toronto Argonauts in the Canadian Football League.
"We continue to put sand on the grass," Giovinco said. "The Argos play, TFC 2 plays. Everybody plays on this field and every game we lose a player [to injury]. This is not possible."
The Reds have dealt with a host of injuries this season, with forwards Jozy Altidore and Victor Vazquez and defenders Drew Moor, Justin Morrow and Chris Mavinga all missing significant time.
Giovinco previously took issue with the playing surface at the end of the 2016 season, which led to him being mocked by players in the CFL.
BMO Field put in a new surface in May after team president Bill Manning called the old surface "a little bit of a cow pasture" that limited the ability of a "Ferrari" like Giovinco to perform.
Toronto FC has five more home games remaining this season, including one on Sept. 15 against the LA Galaxy, whose star striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic has recently raised concerns about risking injury by playing on artificial surfaces.
The Argonauts last played at home on Aug. 18, a week before Saturday's TFC game, and have two further home games in both September and October.
