The New Orleans Pelicans have signed veteran guard Nate Robinson, the team announced Friday.
The Pelicans, who have been struck by a number of injuries this preseason, could use Robinson to help fill the void created by the recent loss of Norris Cole, who will reportedly miss six weeks with a high ankle sprain.
Robinson will land a one-year deal for the veterans minimum, sources say.
He will join Euroleague star Bo McCalebb as recent additions to New Orleans' backcourt after the loss of Cole and with Jrue Holiday on a minutes restriction.
Robinson played in 42 games for the Denver Nuggets and Los Angeles Clippers last season, averaging 5.7 points, 2.3 assists and 1.2 rebounds in 14.1 minutes per game.
Since being selected by Phoenix in the 2005 NBA draft, Robinson has also played for New York, Boston, Oklahoma City, Golden State and Chicago. He has career averages of 11.1 points, 3.0 assists, 2.3 rebounds and 0.9 steals per game.
The Pelicans also waived center Mirza Begic on Friday.
The 7-foot-1 Begic joined New Orleans on Oct. 14 but didn't play in a preseason game before his release.
