ESPN 100 small forward Troy Williams committed to Indiana on Sunday over offers from North Carolina, Louisville, Arkansas, Alabama and Ohio State.
The 6-foot-7 Williams (Hampton, Va./Oak Hill Academy) is the 32nd-ranked player overall and the ninth-ranked small forward. He played AAU ball for his uncle and coach, Boo Williams.
Indiana coach Tom Crean landed his second Class of 2013 ESPN 100 performer, with shooting guard and No. 57 recruit Stanford Robinson (Fairfax, Va./Findlay Prep, Nev.) already in the fold. Add in center Luke Fischer (Germantown, Wisc./Germantown), SF Devin Davis (Indianapolis, Ind./Warren Central) and SF Collin Hartman (Fishers, Ind./Cathedral), and the Hoosiers are on their way to reloading a team that is ranked No. 1 in this year's preseason Associated Press poll.
"Coach Crean is a great coach," Troy Williams said. "He didn't tell me just what I was good at, but what I had to work on. Plus I really got along well with the other players that were committed while on my visit. We really got along well. My mom had a connection with Coach Crean, and the rest of my family supported me.
"I really loved the campus, everything was right there and the fans are crazy. They have great support."
Williams is an elite recruit with matching athletic ability. He is a terror for opponents in the open court where he provides highlight finishes. Williams has done a great job of improving his shooting, ballhandling and passing as well, and his game is well on its way to being more complete and productive in a number of areas.
Crean has not only done a great job recruiting in the Hoosier state but has reached out beyond the borders for high level talent. Williams is the latest proof of his recruiting success.
Boo Williams said his nephew's visit to Indiana the weekend of Oct. 19 sealed the decision.
"The visit did it," Boo Williams said. "I am fine with Indiana. They did a great job with Troy, especially Tom Crean."
