Free-agent pitcher Josh Johnson is close to agreement on a one-year contract to return to the San Diego Padres, according to a league source.
The deal will pay Johnson a base salary in excess of $1 million and include an additional $6-7 million in incentives based on games started, said the source.
The right-hander missed the 2014 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery in April.
Johnson, 30, is 58-45 with a 3.40 ERA over his career with the Marlins and Blue Jays.
The Padres also signed Brandon Morrow this week to bolster their pitching staff.
