Toronto Blue Jays starter Marco Estrada was removed in the first inning of Tuesday night's game against the New York Mets because of left hip soreness, the team announced.
X-rays came back negative, and the Jays said Estrada was undergoing further evaluation.
"His left hip has been bothering him a little bit,'' Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said after his team's 8-6 win. ``It was bothering him in his last start, but it was worse tonight.''
Estrada faced only three batters before he was pulled, giving up a one-out, two-run homer to the Mets' Asdrubal Cabrera on what turned out to be his final pitch of the night.
After briefly being examined by manager John Gibbons and a team trainer, Estrada walked off the field and was replaced by Jake Petricka.
Toronto is already without starting pitchers Aaron Sanchez and Jaime Garcia, who are both on the 10-day disabled list.
