Featherweight champ Max Holloway will face Brian Ortega at UFC 226

UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway will attempt to defend his title against Brian Ortega at UFC 226 on July 7 in Las Vegas.

UFC president Dana White confirmed the 145-pound title fight to ESPN on Friday. The UFC 226 pay-per-view event will take place at T-Mobile Arena.

Holloway (19-3) will be seeking his second defense of the featherweight championship. The 26-year-old Hawaiian is riding a 12-fight win streak dating to 2013.

Earlier this month, Holloway tried to accept a lightweight title fight on short notice against Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 223 but wasn't able to make weight. Nurmagomedov went on to claim the lightweight title by defeating Al Iaquinta.

Holloway will now turn his attention back to Ortega (14-0), who earned a featherweight title shot by knocking out Frankie Edgar at UFC 222 in March.

Fighting out of Southern California, Ortega is 6-0 in the UFC, with six finishes.

A heavyweight super fight between defending champion Stipe Miocic (18-2) and light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier (20-1) will headline UFC 226.
