Daniel Cormier emerged from UFC 226 with a heavyweight belt and a broken finger.
Cormier, who became a two-division champion by knocking out heavyweight champ Stipe Miocic in the main event on Saturday night in Las Vegas, appeared on Ariel Helwani's MMA Show on Monday and revealed that he broke a finger on his right hand -- the hand that knocked out Miocic.
"I have a break at the tip of the finger," said Cormier (21-1, 1 NC), who added the heavyweight belt to the light heavyweight title he already owned.
The break is on his right index finger at the knuckle, right above where he has a plate screwed in from when he broke bones in his hand in two previous fights.
Cormier, 39, said surgery is not needed. The finger will heal with rest and inactivity, he said his doctor told him.
Cormier also went on to confirm a different sort of injury news that was revealed by Dana White at Saturday's postfight press conference: Cormier injured his back during training camp and had to take time off from training.
"Yes, it's true," said Cormier. "That's kind of self-inflicted. Being heavier and having to train, it really did take a toll on my body."
He usually trains at 230 pounds for light heavyweight fights, but for this heavyweight bout he was 245-250 in training camp.
The two-time Olympian in wrestling is just the second fighter to own two UFC belts simultaneously. Conor McGregor did the trick in 2016, adding the lightweight title while he was featherweight champ.
Cormier is near the end of his career -- he promised his family he would retire from fighting once he turns 40, which will happen next March -- but he's not finished yet.
Miocic offered up a compliment -- and a suggestion -- on Monday:

After Saturday's win, Cormier called out Brock Lesnar, a former UFC heavyweight champ who now performs for the WWE. Lesnar has not had a UFC win since 2010, but Cormier invited him into the Octagon because he wants to be part of the lucrative payday that a Lesnar return would bring.
