Sources: Miami Heat, Jimmy Butler progressing toward max extension worth up to $184 million

The Miami Heat and Jimmy Butler are progressing toward a maximum contract extension that could be worth up to $184 million over four years, sources told ESPN on Monday.

Butler and the Heat can finalize the deal over the next week and officially come to terms after Friday, when he's eligible to extend the initial deal he signed with the Heat in 2019.

He was key in recruiting free agent point guard Kyle Lowry, who announced on Instagram that he was joining the Heat, and did so knowing he was going to be locked in with the Heat into the future.

Butler, 31, is coming off an All-NBA season in which he averaged 21.5 points, 6.9 rebounds, 7.1 assists and a league-best 2.1 steals per game.
