San Diego police investigating circumstances of Kellen Winslow Jr. arrest

SAN DIEGO -- The San Diego County Sheriff's Department says it is investigating the circumstances of former NFL player Kellen Winslow Jr.'s arrest on suspicion of burglary.

The department told the San Diego Union-Tribune on Monday that Winslow has given inconsistent and varied statements relating to his presence in a mobile home in Encinitas.

Winslow, 34, was arrested June 7 after a resident reported seeing a stranger walk into a neighboring residence.

Winslow's publicist, Denise White, says he was at the park to look for a home for his mother-in-law and that his wife attends church with the elderly couple that lives in the mobile home where he was seen. White says nothing was touched.

White released a statement from defense attorney Harvey A. Steinberg saying Winslow looks forward to being vindicated.
