KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Chiefs coach Andy Reid didn't commit to Hollywood Brown playing in Sunday's game against the Cincinnati Bengals, but indicated the wide receiver had a chance of being available.
"He's getting close,'' Reid said. "I know he is feeling better. We've just got to kind of see where it goes from here. They've been doing these periodic tests on him and making sure that he's heading in the right direction and scans and all that. So it looks like it's heading in the right direction now.''
Brown, the Chiefs' major offseason free agent addition, didn't play in last week's season-opening win against the Baltimore Ravens. He hasn't practiced since dislocating a shoulder in an Aug. 10 preseason game.
Getting more big plays this season has been a major goal for the Chiefs and even without Brown, they had three passes of more than 30 yards against the Ravens. One went to rookie wide receiver Xavier Worthy, who scored on the play and also had a touchdown on a 21-yard end around.
Reid said that because of Worthy's speed, his impact on the game went beyond the touchdowns he scored. Worthy ran a scouting combine record of 4.21 in the 40 this year.
"They definitely gave him the honor [of his] speed for sure with how they played when he was in,'' Reid said. "I think he showed that he can ... go down the field when needed.
"I think people, obviously the teams that we play will see that [speed if] they didn't know it before. They know it now.''
The Bengals and defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo have been a challenge for the Chiefs. The Chiefs are 3-3 against the Bengals in the regular season and playoffs since Patrick Mahomes became Kansas City's starting quarterback in 2018.
The Chiefs kicked six field goals in last season's game against Cincinnati.
"He's got a little bit of everything, and they do it so well,'' Reid said. "Lou is going to throw a whole lot of different pitches at you and you've got to keep swinging. They're not all going to hit every one of them. He does a heck of a job with that.''
