FRISCO, Texas -- Already saddled with run defense issues, the Dallas Cowboys will be without defensive tackle Jordan Phillips for at least the next four games because of a right wrist injury that has landed him on injured reserve, it was announced Wednesday.
Phillips had surgery last year after suffering a dislocated right wrist against the Cowboys while playing for the Buffalo Bills. It's unclear if he will again have surgery but it is a possibility, according to a source.
The Cowboys acquired Phillips in a training camp trade with the New York Giants. The terms of the trade were finalized when Phillips was on the Cowboys' game-day roster for the first two games, which means the Giants will receive Dallas' sixth-round pick in 2026 and the Cowboys will receive a seventh-round pick in 2026.
Phillips, who turns 32 on Saturday, is in his 10th season and has played for the Cowboys, Bills, Miami Dolphins and Arizona Cardinals.
The Cowboys' run defense was obliterated in last week's loss to the New Orleans Saints, giving up 190 yards and four touchdowns. Three of Alvin Kamara's four touchdowns came on the ground.
This week, the Cowboys face the Baltimore Ravens with running back Derrick Henry and quarterback Lamar Jackson.
Defensive tackle has been a concern for the Cowboys. In addition to acquiring Phillips, the Cowboys signed veteran Linval Joseph at the end of training camp. Phillips has played 34 of 135 snaps in two games, being credited with a half tackle and two quarterback pressures.
Dallas signed veteran lineman Carlos Watkins off the Washington Commanders' practice squad Wednesday.
The Cowboys have two defensive tackles on their practice squad -- Phil Hoskins and Denzel Daxon -- if they look to promote from within.
