Cardinals right guard Will Hernandez (knee) done for season

TEMPE, Ariz. -- Arizona Cardinals right guard Will Hernandez will go on injured reserve and miss the rest of the season with a left knee injury, coach Jonathan Gannon said Monday.

Hernandez, who signed with Arizona in 2022, suffered the injury early in the fourth quarter of Sunday's comeback win over the San Francisco 49ers on a run by James Conner.

Hernandez missed just seven games in his seven seasons up to this point. He played every game in four of his six full seasons.

"Will was playing really well," Gannon said. "He's playing really good ball for us. He's an integral part to our toughness and our attitude and doing things the right way, practicing the right way, playing the right way.

"It's a tough one to lose, but he'll recover from it. He'll get back and he'll be back, saddled up again. I'm sure of that, knowing him. And the guys that we got, we feel good about. We'll get the right lineup in there and go to work."

Trystan Colon, who replaced Hernandez on Sunday, is expected to fill the role, but Arizona might look at rotating in rookie Isaiah Adams and second-year offensive lineman Jon Gaines II as well.

Gannon said Colon "did some good things" and the coach said he feels good about Colon playing, if needed.

"Everyone will get reps in there," Gannon said. "They all gotta be ready to go. If you've got a jersey on game day, you gotta be ready to play. So those interior spots, we got multiple guys that can fill that role. Certain guys can play left and right, so we'll find the best combination and those guys, with their role changing now because of Will, will maximize their opportunity."

This was the second blow to the right side of Arizona's offensive line. The team lost right tackle Jonah Williams in Week 1, leading to Kelvin Beachum replacing him. Beachum missed Week 3 with a hamstring injury but returned in Week 4 and will continue to at right tackle until Williams returns, if he does, this season.

"We'll get the right blend and the right mix in there and they'll be comfortable playing with each other," Gannon said. "And the communication piece is obviously very important ... with those guys, but we'll be on point."
