NFL warns Earl Bennett about shoes

Chicago Bears wide receiver Earl Bennett, who was fined $10,000 last week for wearing orange shoes, has been told he will not be allowed on the field if he wears the shoes again, a league source told ESPN senior NFL analyst Chris Mortensen.

Last Sunday against the Lions was Bennett's second uniform violation for wearing the shoes.

He told ESPN 1000 earlier this week that he had heard the fine would continue to increase and "after that I've heard that they are going to call delay of game and maybe kick me out of the game."

It appears that Bennett didn't want to take his chances with the league: He wore cleats with the normal black and orange combination for Sunday's game against the Chargers.

Entering play Sunday, Bennett had 14 catches for 196 yards and a touchdown on the season. He missed five games due to a chest injury he suffered against the New Orleans Saints in Week 2.

Information from ESPN senior NFL analyst Chris Mortensen was used in this report.
