RIO DE JANEIRO -- Rio de Janeiro's city council has set up a commission to investigate whether the city's Olympic projects were tarnished by corruption.
The five-member commission is expected to request contracts and other documents related to the stadiums, highways and other projects built for the Aug. 5-21 games.
The councilman behind the commission said it grew out of the sprawling corruption probe at the Petrobras oil company.
In the opening session Tuesday, members pledged to act quickly and transparently. They have up to six months to draw up conclusions of the probe.
The establishment of the commission comes just weeks after a stretch of an elevated bike path collapsed, killing two people. The $12.5 million bike path was inaugurated in January and had been considered one of Rio's top Olympic legacy projects.
