UConn women's basketball coach Geno Auriemma will miss a second consecutive game due to illness Wednesday afternoon when the Huskies host Seton Hall at the XL Center.
Auriemma began experiencing flu-like symptoms after shootaround before Sunday's 85-77 win over Florida State, the school said, adding he'll be away from the team through the weekend to recover on the advice of medical staff.
"There's been a lot going on in the last couple weeks, and I think it caught up to me physically," Auriemma said in a statement. "I've been feeling under the weather for about 10 days now, and my doctor recommended I take a few days off to fully recover. CD [longtime associate head coach Chris Dailey] and the coaching staff will continue to do a phenomenal job in my absence, and I look forward to returning to the team in a few days."
Dailey, who improved to 14-0 when filling in for Auriemma on Sunday, will take over for him once more Wednesday.
Auriemma and the Huskies have had a trying few weeks. In addition to experiencing a slew of injuries, including to star Azzi Fudd (right knee, out three to six weeks), Auriemma's mother died on Dec. 8.
UConn is 8-2 on the season; after hosting Seton Hall, the program has a week before its next game, at Creighton on Dec. 28.
