Ginebra, Terrafirma exchange first-round draftees Gray, Gomez de Liano

The wheeling and dealing ahead of the June 5 opening of the 47th season of the PBA got underway just two days after the Rookie Draft, with Barangay Ginebra and Terrafirma Dyip swapping draft choices.

The Kings sent No. 8 pick Javi Gomez de Liaño and last season's No. 13 pick Brian Enriquez to the Dyip in exchange for No. 2 selection Jeremiah Gray, the league announced Tuesday.

Gomez de Liaño -- fresh off a stint with the Ibaraki Robots in the Japan B.League -- had expressed delight in being picked by Ginebra, the team he grew up cheering for as a child. Instead, he will now be joining the promising young duo of Season 46 top pick Joshua Munzon and center Isaac Go, and veterans Juami Tiongson, Andreas Cahilig and Ed Daquioag on a Dyip team that is still in search of a breakout season.

Enriquez -- a shooting guard -- hardly saw action in his rookie year, appearing in just seven games and averaging only 1.1 points per game but looks a chance at more playing time with the Dyip.

Gray is still recovering from an ACL tear suffered in late November. Once healthy, he will join a veteran Ginebra team that has won three of the last four PBA championships.

The addition of Gray will inject some fresh legs and athleticism into an aging Ginebra team, which has several core players aged 32 or older.

The PBA also announced that the newest team, Converge Fiber Xers, had acquired No. 7 overall selection Tyrus Hill and second-year player Dave Murrell from the NLEX Road Warriors in exchange for their Season 48 first-round pick.

Hill's selection at No. 7 came as a mild surprise given he had been out of circulation in the local basketball scene since playing his last UAAP season with the DLSU Green Archers in 2019, and he was a no-show at the Rookie Combine.

Murrell, the 20th overall pick in the Season 46 draft, suited up for Cavitex in the PBA's 3x3 tournament but appeared in only four games for the Road Warriors in 5x5, averaging just 3.3 points in 8.8 minutes of playing time.

The Fiber Xers now have three of the 12 players picked in the first round last Sunday. With the third and fourth picks, they tabbed NCAA big men Jeo Ambohot and Justin Arana.
