Mitchell Trubisky recovers after frustrating weekend at Bears camp

Bears rookie quarterback Mitchell Trubisky recovered with a strong showing Monday after fumbling four snaps over the weekend. Robin Alam/Icon Sportswire

BOURBONNAIS, Ill. -- Every day at Chicago Bears training camp is about the quarterbacks. There is no quarterback controversy -- Mike Glennon is the clear-cut No. 1 -- but plenty of intrigue surrounds Glennon (still a relative unknown), Mark Sanchez (former high-profile starter) and Mitchell Trubisky (No. 2 overall pick of the 2017 NFL draft).

Here’s a closer look at their day Monday:

Mike Glennon

Wow moment: Glennon’s passes have been on point on underneath routes. Monday’s workout was no different. He hit wide receiver Cameron Meredith in stride on a 15-yard completion down the right seam in 11-on-11 drills. Later, in another full-team drill, Glennon successfully climbed the pocket as the protection around him collapsed to find tight end Dion Sims close to the right sideline. Glennon isn’t the most mobile quarterback, but he showed smart pocket presence on that play.

Whoa moment: Glennon uncharacteristically botched two snaps -- the first in 7-on-7 and then later in 11-on-11. These are easy issues to clean up, but every wasted rep matters in training camp. Glennon also threw the football at the feet of running back Ka'Deem Carey on a pass out of the backfield during 7-on-7 work.

Mark Sanchez

Wow moment: Sanchez, the wily veteran, quickly identified a busted coverage in Chicago’s secondary and hit wide receiver Josh Bellamy for a big gain in 7-on-7.

Whoa moment: Sanchez sailed a wild swing pass over the head of Carey near the left sideline. But after being picked off twice Sunday, Sanchez did a much better job protecting the football Monday.

Mitchell Trubisky

Wow moment: Trubisky stood out on two plays Monday. First, he fired a laser to veteran receiver Victor Cruz, who was running an out pattern toward the right sideline. Trubisky put the ball on the money, allowing Cruz to turn upfield without breaking stride. That was probably Trubisky’s best ball of the day. Later, in 11-on-11 work, Trubisky scrambled to his right (he almost ran out of bounds) and heaved the ball up to tight end Ben Braunecker, who came down with it in the end zone for a touchdown.

Whoa moment: After fumbling four snaps over the weekend, Trubisky looked pretty clean Monday. He had a few incompletions but nothing that really stood out.

The Bears are off Tuesday and back on the practice field Wednesday.
