Ohio State outlook: Top 5 2014 WRs

With the 2014 recruiting class in full focus, BuckeyeNation is taking a position-by-position look.

Today, we examine the wide receivers, a position that highlighted the 2013 class with four four-star athletes signed, including three commitments in the final eight days.

Here are the top five wide receivers of 2014 the Buckeyes are after who aren’t committed somewhere else and with an offer from Ohio State.

1. Noah Brown (Sparta, N.J./Pope John XXIII)

Offers: Boston College, Georgia Tech, Michigan State, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Carolina, Ohio State, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, South Carolina, South Florida, Syracuse, Temple, USC, Vanderbilt, Virginia, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, Wisconsin

Outlook: Brown is scheduled to be at Ohio State for an unofficial visit on Wednesday and will head to Vanderbilt on Friday. He has said he plans to trim his list after that. He’s looking forward to one-on-ones with the coaching staff and is definitely interested in what the Buckeyes have to offer.

2. Mike Gesicki (Manahawkin, N.J./Southern Regional)

Offers: Boston College, Connecticut, Duke, Florida State, Massachusetts, Miami (Fla.), Ohio State, Old Dominion, Penn State, Purdue, Rutgers, Syracuse, Tulane, Wisconsin, Yale

Outlook: Gesicki remains high on the Buckeyes' list, but plans visits to Duke, Florida State and Vanderbilt. He was at Florida State and might head out to Alabama as well. He regularly talks to Ohio State quarterback recruit Stephen Collier.

3. Curtis Samuel (Brooklyn, N.Y./Erasmus)

Offers: Boston College, Connecticut, Florida, Maryland, Miami (Fla.), Notre Dame, Ohio State, Rutgers, Syracuse, Tennessee, USC, Virginia, Wisconsin

Outlook: Samuel is slated to camp at Friday Night Lights this week and is very high on the Buckeyes. He doesn’t have a list of top schools just yet, but has drawn a liking to Ohio State. If he makes the trip to The Horseshoe this week, it could be interesting.

4. Trevion Thompson (Durham, N.C./Hillside)

Offers: Clemson, Duke, Florida, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Ohio State, Purdue, South Carolina, Vanderbilt, Virginia Tech

Outlook: He put the Buckeyes high on his list when he visited last time and a return visit to Friday Night Lights looks promising. While he might not be Ohio State’s No. 1 choice, he’s certainly not a bad option as the school looks to close the books at wide receiver.

5. Johnnie Dixon (West Palm Beach, Florida/Dwyer)

Offers: Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Kentucky, Louisiana-Lafayette, Louisville, Marshall, Miami (Fla.), North Carolina State, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Purdue, South Florida, Tennessee, Virginia Tech, Washington State, West Virginia, Wisconsin

Outlook: Dixon can say the Buckeyes are co-favorites with Miami (Fla.) and have Florida as his third choice, but BuckeyeNation still thinks the Hurricanes are the top choice by themselves. It would be surprising to see Dixon end up in scarlet and gray.
