GREEN BAY, Wis. – Jordy Nelson should be ready to go when the Green Bay Packers open training camp on Thursday morning. The Pro Bowl receiver passed his physical on Wednesday and is expected to practice.

Nelson missed almost all of the OTA and minicamp practices after undergoing hip surgery this offseason.

Early on Wednesday, coach Mike McCarthy said he wasn't sure of Nelson's status for the start of training camp because players were still undergoing medical and conditioning tests. But when the team turned in its list of players for the physically unable to perform list, Nelson was not on it.

All along, Nelson said his goal was to be ready for the start of training camp.

"We're right where we want to be," Nelson said after he took part in individual drills during the Packers minicamp last month. "We set a plan at the beginning and we're hitting every target. We feel good and like I said a couple of weeks ago, we'll be ready to go by training camp."

Nelson, 30, said the injury bothered him last season, but it didn't stop him from posting career-highs in receptions (98) and yards (1,519).

The Packers put four players on injured lists:

  • OLB Mike Neal, who missed all of the offseason with an undisclosed injury.

  • WR Ricky Collins, who dropped out of offseason practices with an undisclosed injury.

  • RB John Crockett, who sustained a sprained ankle in the June minicamp.

  • CB Quinten Rollins, the Packers' second-round pick.

Neal, Collins and Crockett were placed on PUP; Rollins was placed on the non-football injury list.

It means that in addition to Nelson, several other key returning players passed their physicals. Among them were cornerback Casey Hayward (foot) and outside linebacker Nick Perry (shoulder). Both missed all of the offseason practices.

Also, the three players coming off ACL surgeries – receiver Jared Abbrederis, guard/tackle Don Barclay and outside linebacker Andy Mulumba – all passed their physicals. All had taken part in at least a portion of the offseason practices.
