Back to school: Ha Ha Clinton-Dix has reason for missing Packers' workouts

GREEN BAY, Wis. – Here’s how serious Ha Ha Clinton-Dix is about finishing his college education: The Green Bay Packers safety has missed the first three weeks of offseason workouts because he’s back in school.

That should change soon because Clinton-Dix said on Thursday he’s taking his last final exam of the semester.

Clinton-Dix re-enrolled at the University of Alabama more than a year ago to complete his degree in criminal justice; he left school 26 credit hours short of his diploma when he entered the draft in 2014.

"I just want to be a mentor, be able to give back and show people that it's not a bad thing to be in criminal justice or be a cop, if that's what you want to do,” Clinton-Dix said in an interview with ESPN last year.

Just because he hasn’t been in Green Bay that doesn’t mean he has been neglecting his workouts. Alabama linebacker Reuben Foster, who was a first-round pick in last week’s draft, told ESPN.com that he has seen Clinton-Dix in the Alabama football facilities regularly this spring.

Clinton-Dix, 24, made his first Pro Bowl last season and on Tuesday the Packers picked up the fifth-year option on his rookie contract. That will pay him nearly $6 million in 2018.
