Welcome back to our weekly illustrated guide during the college football season to four games that had an impact on the playoff race.
Previous weeks: 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5
Texas 24, No. 10 Oklahoma 17
A week after Texas lost to TCU 50-7, the Longhorns wrecked No. 10 Oklahoma with 313 rushing yards. The upset was the cause of much celebration after the game by Texas coach Charlie Strong, who claimed the Golden Hat.
No. 18 Michigan 38, No. 13 Northwestern 0
The Wolverines continued on a steady diet of goose eggs, shutting out their third straight opponent for the first time since 1980. Michigan won its fifth straight game and blew out Northwestern, which previously had been giving up a nation-low seven points per game.
Close calls for Michigan State, TCU
Two top-five teams made thrilling escapes to remain unscathed. No. 4 Michigan State scored on a 3-yard run with 43 seconds left to beat Rutgers 31-24, while Trevone Boykin threw a 55-yard touchdown to Josh Doctson with 1:10 remaining as No. 2 TCU rallied past Kansas State 52-45.
No. 5 Utah 30, No. 23 Cal 24
The Utes shackled the Bears, claiming six turnovers -- including five interceptions of Cal quarterback Jared Goff. Utah is the last Pac-12 unbeaten, holding off Cal by forcing an incompletion on fourth down after it drove to the Utah 21 with 26 seconds left in the game.
