Kansas State Wildcats coach Chris Klieman agrees to 6-year deal

Kansas State football coach Chris Klieman has agreed to a new six-year, $23.5 million contract with the school, the school announced Monday.

Klieman is 10-6 at Kansas State with two wins against Oklahoma. The Wildcats are 2-1 this season and sit just outside the Associated Press Top 25.

"Chris and his staff have done a phenomenal job in their short time at K-State, and we are excited that he will be here for a very long time," athletic director Gene Taylor said in a statement. "Chris is a tremendous fit, someone who cares a great deal about his players, and most importantly, he and his staff are terrific football coaches and we look forward to many more years under his leadership."

Klieman is the lowest-paid coach in the Big 12 at $2.3 million annually. The new deal includes salary increases to $3.1 million in 2021 and up to $4.3 million for the final three years of the agreement.

Klieman, 53, is 82-19 overall as a college head coach with four FCS national championships at North Dakota State. He spent most of his career coaching in the FCS before joining Kansas State after the 2018 season. Kansas State marked his first job at the FBS level since 2007, when he was a graduate assistant at Kansas.

"My family and I love K-State and we are very fortunate to call Manhattan home," Klieman said in the statement. "We will continue to work as hard as we possibly can each and every day to not only win football games but also to help the young men in our program grow and be successful."

Kansas State next plays Saturday at TCU.
