Time for Williams to put pressure on Ferrari - Felipe Massa

Felipe Massa has called on Williams to take the fight to Ferrari after the team recorded its first podium of the season in Canada.

Valtteri Bottas turned in a flawless drive to third in Canada, while Felipe Massa battled back from a low grid spot to finish sixth behind the two Ferraris. Massa thinks Williams should take heart from the fact Ferrari did not take the fight to Mercedes with its upgraded power unit, especially with upgrades due for the high-speed Austrian Grand Prix.

"Looking that they had this upgrade on the engine and the difference is still similar, I think it shows that we can still fight," Massa said. "We should have an upgrade on the car in the next race and I hope we can catch Ferrari even more. I don't know when Mercedes will put some upgrades on the engine, when they give some upgrades maybe we can even get stronger in that area.

"I think things are going in a good line, I would say. After this race is an important moment for us, we have a good track for us in Austria, there's an upgrade so I think it's a good moment for us to put some pressure on Ferrari. I don't know how much their upgrades will give, they improved in this race but I think we are in good shape as well."

Massa thinks he could have been the Williams driver on the podium were it not for his loss of power in qualifying on Saturday.

"In a way not [a good race] because we could have finished on the podium, but for sure I was very happy with my race, very happy with my overtaking, with the pace, strategy - especially the pace with the option was really good, really happy with that. The car shows very good performance, the only negative thing of the weekend was qualifying yesterday was the problem we had with the wastegate. That was the only negative thing because the race was very good today."
