Kimi Raikkonen said the water leak that limited his running time in Saturday morning practice hampered his preparations for qualifying at the Hungarian Grand Prix.
Raikkonen qualified fifth on the grid for Sunday's race behind Daniel Ricciardo's Red Bull and 0.291s off Ferrari team-mate Seabstian Vettel. In final practice ahead of the qualifying session, Raikkonen missed the usual qualifying simulation on the softer compound tyres due to a water leak.
"It's not ideal today, because we missed the morning soft tyre run with the issue, and I didn't really know how grip was. It wasn't too bad, there were a few issues here and there with small things and obviously it cost a bit of time, but at least we are not on the inside [dirty line on the grid] and hopefully we will make a good start and take it from there in the race.
"It was a bit unknown for qualifying, but we kept improving. It still wasn't ideal in the end, but it wasn't too bad. Obviously you always want to be higher up."
Raikkonen said Ferrari is realistically aiming to be best of the rest behind the two Mercedes drivers.
"We will try to do our best, obviously Mercedes will be strong, but we will try to be second best after that if we cannot challenge them. It will be a long race and we have to see how it pans out, but we will keep pushing and see where we are.
"I haven't seen exactly how the others were and we had some issues yesterday. We didn't get exactly what we wanted in terms of run length and there were red flags and stuff. I think it wasn't too bad, and like I said, hopefully we will make a good start and go from there and see what we get. It should be pretty okay."
