Toto Wolff says Mercedes recent struggles off the line are unacceptable and is seeking answers over the summer break.
The last two races have seen Mercedes lock out the front row, only to lose their advantage off the line - to Williams at Silverstone and then Ferrari at the Hungaroring. Lewis Hamilton also had a slow getaway in Austria which allowed team-mate Nico Rosberg to beat him to Turn 1.
However, the Hungarian Grand Prix was the only time a bad start cost Mercedes the win in any of those instances.
Asked if he was concerned by the team's recent starts, Wolff replied: "Very concerned. We got jumped by two Williams last time and jumped by two Ferraris this time and that triggered the whole mess. We need to get on top of the situation, it's not acceptable. I think there are many different reasons, but if you look at it it's not good."
Wolff explained it is probably due to a calibration issue.
"It was another crappy start, which was the root cause of all other stuff that came afterwards. I think it's a calibration problem, so a technical problem. It's various issues and very difficult to get the calibration right. We had two very good practice starts off the line and then when it mattered on the race start we had too much wheelspin and you get overtaken in a way you cannot recover."
After seeing a front row lockout turn in to sixth and eighth at the Hungaroring, Wolff does not think it is right to point fingers at any specific area of Mercedes' operation.
"We had so many various incidents where if you were to now try and find out who was at fault in any of these incidents, you would find that everybody is probably responsible for the performance we had."
Start procedures are set to change at the Belgian Grand Prix, the first race after the summer break. The new rules put all the control back to the driver's hands at the start, with the pitwall no longer allowed any input about necessary clutch settings.
When a journalist mentioned the imminent changes Wolff, referring to Mercedes recent form, joked: "Maybe this is better for us!"
