The body of five-time F1 champion Juan-Manuel Fangio was exhumed on Friday in order to resolve a paternity case brought by two men claiming to be the son of the Argentinian.
Under orders from a judge in Buenos Aires, the procedure was carried out in Fangio's hometown of Balcarce so that DNA samples could be extracted from Fangio's body. Fangio died on July 17, 1995 having never married and with no known children, but in 2013 a 77-year-old man named Oscar Espinoza, the son of Fangio's partner of two decades, Andrea Berreut, claimed he is the F1 legend's son.
A 73-year-old named Ruben Vazquez also claims to be the son of the F1 legend, but told reporters that he is merely seeking clarification and does not have any financial interest in the Fangio estate.
Fangio won five F1 titles in 1951, 1954, 1955, 1956 and 1957, a record only surpassed by Michael Schumacher. He took 24 race victories from 52 races.
