Lewis Hamilton took pole position for the 11th time this year in Italy. What's the record for one season? asked Geoff Hartwell

Lewis Hamilton's Monza pole was his 11th in 12 races this season, which - with seven starts remaining - leaves him in sight of the overall record of 15, set by Sebastian Vettel in 2011 (also from 19 races).

In 1992 Nigel Mansell took 14 poles from 16 races, an 87.5% success rate; Hamilton is ahead of that at the moment, with 91.66%.

Ayrton Senna (in 1988 and 1989) and Alain Prost (1993) both collected 13 pole positions in a 16-race season. Currently level with Hamilton with 11 poles are Mika Hakkinen (from 16 races in 1999), Michael Schumacher (from 17 in 2001) and Nico Rosberg (from 19 in 2014).

Hamilton's Monza pole was his seventh in a row since this year's Monaco GP; only Ayrton Senna, with eight in 1988-89, has had more successive pole positions.
