Ferrari team principal Maurizio Arrivabene has labelled the Mexican Grand Prix as a character-building weekend for his team.
Ferrari suffered its first double retirement since 2006 on Sunday after Kimi Raikkonen clashed with Valtteri Bottas and Sebastian Vettel spun out of the race. Arrivabene said he does not blame his drivers, but hopes the whole team learns from the experience.
"I want to start like this; during the course of this season we touched the sky, today we touched the bottom," he said. "This is a good lesson for all of us, preparing ourselves and the character of the team for next year. I don't want to blame Kimi in one way, I don't want to blame Seb in the other way. We don't have to excuse and they don't have to excuse, we are a team, so this is my answer."
Despite the poor result, Arrivabene took encouragement from the speed of the Ferrari in Mexico.
"The race pace was very, very good today. We were a bit concerned about the weather because if it was raining for us it'd have been a potential problem but I was happy with the pace."
