Kimi Raikkonen says Ferrari cannot be satisfied by two successive podiums in 2016 as it has also come with retirements in either race.
Raikkonen returned to the podium with second place at the Bahrain Grand Prix but it was a bittersweet result for Ferrari, with Sebastian Vettel's retirement on the formation lap making it the second successive race only one car made the chequered flag following the Finn's turbo failure in Australia. Raikkonen says those two retirements should not diminish what Ferrari achieved over the winter but acknowledges there is work to do.
"It's still positive, what the team has built over winter," he said. "It hasn't been an ideal first two races for us as a team; two podiums but two no scores, that's not what we want. There's obviously work to be done on that side but the speed is there, if you take away the last qualifying, until then it was pretty OK. We have a good target, we just have to improve it, make even make it better.
"The car is improving in all the areas, it's not just one thing over the winter, it's a brand new car again -- the engine has improved, the car itself, the teamwork. The whole package is still not as good as we want it to be but it's definitely a good car and we will go from there. But is there something I prefer more? We always prefer it when we have a good car, a faster car, so that's good. There's always things to improve and do things better."
Ahead of this season the FIA clamped down on radio communications, hoping to put race strategy more in the hands of drivers rather than race engineers. During his victorious drive at the 2012 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Raikkonen famously responded to a list of instructions from his Lotus team by saying: "Just leave me alone, I know what I'm doing".
The 2007 world champion has no issue with the latest restrictions.
"I think in a normal race, no issues. We've been running smoothly and it's not a lot different. In those races if there is something going wrong it will be more difficult to sort them out and fix it, but the first few races have been pretty OK -- no issues on my side. For me I don't mind. Sometimes you want the radio when you need it but I think there's certain things are allowed to be said and discussed and so far it's been OK, all fine."
