Nico Hulkenberg will start the Chinese Grand Prix from 13th on the grid after being handed a penalty for the incident which saw his tyre come loose in qualifying.
The Force India driver pulled off the circuit late in Q2 without a front left, with replays showing the tyre had freed itself from the rim as he came through Turn 10. The incident prompted red flags, coincidentally helping Hulkenberg into the final session of qualifying as it prevented anyone else from attempting another lap.
Hulkenberg took no part in Q3 and finished the session in tenth but the stewards have handed him a three-place penalty, moving Felipe Massa, Fernando Alonso and Jenson Button up by a single place each.
Explaining what happened, Hulkenberg said: "The wheel just came off, there's not much you feel! Usually there is a bit of vibration going on and you can tell something is not right but this one was very sudden and it came off. One minute it was on and the next minute it was off.
"I was making a gap already to the cars in front. I was going really slow and it just popped off."
