Romain Grosjean says Haas has taken positives away from its lacklustre Chinese Grand Prix after understanding where it went wrong over the weekend.
After qualifying 14th, Grosjean sustained front wing damage in the first corner and then struggled to fight back, finishing the race 19th. The lack of pace all weekend was analysed by the team and Grosjean is hoping the lessons learned will result in a better weekend in Russia.
"I think it was a very positive weekend for us because we have done much more analysis after China than we did after Bahrain," he said. "We could see real problems and understand why we were always on the back foot and why we were not reacting to the next problems and what we did right or wrong.
"I am quite amazed by the reaction back at the factory and everything that has been put in place for here. Hopefully, I'll be looking forward to being back in the car tomorrow and after a few laps we will be back where we wanted to be and back to a good baseline and we can work from there."
Asked if the problem was rooted in Pirelli's high tyre pressure recommendations in China, Grosjean said: "It was part of the problem, but we made it worse by our set up and the way we run the car. We could have reacted a different way and that is what we will do now if it happens again. That is why it was positive for us."
Grosjean believes Haas can return to the points this weekend in Russia if it can recapture the form it showed in the opening two rounds.
"I think back in the points is possible if we get everything back to where we want it, where it was initially in the season."
